Window Seat

I garden from the inside out. My garden should look its most wonderful from the best seat in the house. For the last 10 or so years that has been the window seat along the bow windows in the Laurel house. I sat there every morning with my coffee, watching light creep into the garden.

Where is my new perch to watch the morning light? The living room, with its bank of low windows, perhaps should be it. But the towering bamboo blocks all morning light. Off the kitchen, though, is a lovely south facing window that looks out on the (someday) garden and the (under construction) path into the woods.

I’ve spent three days feeling stumped by that window. It is set perfectly if you want to put a kitchen table beneath it, but that is too high to look out of comfortably from a normal easy chair or sofa. I’ve been searching for anything with a high enough seat to give me a view and haven’t found anything.

Finally I remembered I had a set of bed risers in a box, and I used them to lift an ancient horse hair sofa to the right height. And now I have my morning perch.
