This winter’s project was a set of shallow steps and a retaining wall to manage the backyard’s slope.

I have a habit of doing things once without knowing what the heck I am doing, learning something, and then never doing it again. So now I know how to build a retaining wall with steps. I’d do it better next time, but I’m calling it good enough.

The brickwork is a bit wonky. That’s what happens when you design the slope of a path around the roots of your wisteria. I’m more gardener than mason.

You may be more gardener than mason, but what you are, above all, is amazing. That brick work looks solid and beautiful. Can’t wait to see it in person; maybe some of your logic and thoughtfulness will rub off on me.
