The squirrels began to sample the pears, which is a good indication that they are starting to ripen.
The Seckel pears seem ready – the stems separate from the tree when you gently lift up the pear. The larger, Bartlett-type didn’t come off when given that treatment so I left them.
Fingers crossed this year will be the year!
